The Finch: Chapter Twenty One

Chapter Twenty One

Georgia tried to think.  She wondered if the Ptarmigan followed them after they battled with the Flying Fish.  She hadn't seen them around during the battle, as they had gone after the other ship.  She wondered if they had come back and she didn't know it.

Georgia said, "Wait, I can explain."

"Be quiet.  This is over.  Your partners are done.  Soon you will be."

Georgia said, "Please, you don’t understand."

"Be quiet!  I don't want to hear you speak.  Walk around to the other side of the ship."

Georgia walked around the Ptarmigan.  On the side she was on, there was a very large dent in the center near the bottom.  She could also see damage to the bottom of the front.  She came to the other side.  It was open in the center, and the side was folded down like a ramp.

"Walk up and inside."

Georgia walked up the ramp.  There was a large open space in front of her.  Against the wall there were panels or something stacked.  The looked like they were pushed up by the dent.  The floor had groves and holes along it.  To her right, there was a large wall that had lots of small access panels on it.  To her left, there was a wall with an opening in it.

"Walk over there, to the corner and stand right against the wall."

Georgia walked and stood.

The woman said, "My weapon is pointed at you."

Georgia could hear the woman open a drawer and rummage for something.

"Alright, turn right and walk to the center ahead."

Georgia walked to the center of the space.  From behind her, a piece of rope flew to the ground.

"Pick that up and tie your ankles together.  Do it right!  Don't sit.  Stand and do it."

Georgia bent over and picked up the rope.  It was about three feet long.  In her mind, she could see herself turning around and whipping the rope in the woman's face.  She wasn't sure though.  She wondered how far back the woman was.  She could again see herself being shot.  As she thought, she bent down and wrapped the rope around her ankles and tied a knot.

"Okay, now kneel down and lay on your stomach.  Put your hands behind your back."

Georgia knelt down and then laid on the floor.

From behind, the woman walked to Georgia and sat on her.  Georgia could feel the weight on her back.  The woman grabbed Georgia's right wrist with a jerk and looped a rope around it.  She then grabbed her left wrist and tied it to the right.  Then the woman spun around, untied Georgia's ankles and tied them again.  She then turned around again, and took what felt like a bandage and wrapped it over Georgia's eyes.  Georgia felt the moment when she couldn't see.

The woman said, "Sit up," and she stood up off of Georgia, stepped around and grabbed Georgia by the shoulders.  She didn't wait for Georgia to sit, but dragged Georgia across the floor and set her against a wall.

Georgia then heard the woman walk away.  She heard a sound of something moving and then heard the sound of something clicking and of metal moving against metal.  She heard footsteps and then nothing.  After a minute, there was a noise and she felt the Ptarmigan move.  She felt it lift up and drop and then lift and drop.  Then after another noise, the Ptarmigan shook.  It shook again, and then she felt as it started to take off.
